Soldier….freakin' Soldier has the power to bend fire. I can't even imagine Pyro's destructions compare to Soldiers. Actually I can, Pyro is a fire bender master with mental problems but damn Soldier. 0-0
For Solly's background it's all on this picture. But maybe he wasn't all that crazy in the past. Who knows, maybe he did had a loving family when he was younger but it was taken away from him.
Soldier enjoys Scout's energy and Scout thinks of Soldier like an older brother. 
I guess Soldier joined Scout because Scout is the Avatar and to Solly, it's once in a life time of a challenge to create a great soldier.
